Learn what random sampling is, how it works, and why it is important for data collection.Cluster sample – A cluster sample involves using a simple random sample of evident groups that the population contains.Systematic sample - A systematic sample is chosen on the basis of an ordered system. Convenience sample - This type of sample is characterized by the selection of easy to obtain members from the population. Again, this is typically not a worthwhile style for a sampling technique. Simple Random Sample: A simple random sample is a subset of a statistical population in which each member of the subset has an equal probability of being chosen.Voluntary response sample – Here subjects from the population determine whether they will be members of the sample or not. This type of sample is not reliable to do meaningful statistical work.In this type of sample individuals are randomly obtained, and so every individual is equally likely to be chosen. It is also necessary that every group of n individuals is equally likely of being chosen. Multistage Sampling (in which some of the methods above are combined in stages) Of the five methods listed above, students have the most trouble distinguishing between stratified sampling and cluster sampling. Advantages: It is easy to use and provides a representative sample of the population. Here are some general advantages and disadvantages of different types of samples: Simple Random Sampling. Simple random sample – This type of sample is easy to confuse with a random sample as the differences between them are quite subtle. Simple Random Sampling (SRS) Stratified Sampling. Each type of sample has its advantages and disadvantages, which researchers should consider when selecting a sampling method. After those people complete the study, the researchers ask each person. Snowball sampling begins when researchers contact a few people who meet a study’s criteria. Random sample – Here every member of the population is equally likely to be a member of the sample. Members are chosen via a random process. Because volunteer samples are inexpensive, researchers across industries use them for a variety of different types of research.
